The Atelier
The Art of Embroidery
Where beauty is drawn in thread — a heritage of Ukrainian craftsmanship, reimagined for the modern woman.
At ZALXNDRA Resort, embroidery is not decoration — it is devotion. Every motif begins with a hand-drawn sketch and ends in the steady rhythm of a needle pulled through pure European linen. The result is a piece that carries the weight of generations: timeless, considered, and quietly alive with the marks of human craft.
Each piece is brought to life by skilled artisans in Ukraine, carrying forward a tradition of precision, care, and attention to detail that stretches back centuries. What you wear is not simply a garment. It is the meeting point of heritage and intention.
Where Craft Meets Linen
The Story Behind Every Piece
ZALXNDRA Resort was founded on a belief that fashion, at its highest form, should slow down — that linen and thread, in the hands of artisans, deserve the patience to become heirlooms rather than products. Our partnerships with Ukrainian ateliers reflect that belief at every stage of creation.
We work in close, ongoing collaboration with a small number of trusted ateliers whose families have practiced embroidery for generations. Many of our master embroiderers learned the craft from their mothers and grandmothers — preserving stitches and techniques that have been passed down through Ukrainian textile tradition for over a century.
Every collection is sketched by our creative director, Anna Z. Alexandra, then translated into pattern, fabric, and thread through a process that remains rooted in human craft. Nothing is mechanised. Nothing is rushed.
"A piece worth wearing is a piece worth waiting for. Every stitch we place is a quiet rebellion against fast fashion."
Anna Z. Alexandra — Founder & Creative Director
Design Philosophy
Timeless Elegance, Considered Detail
At ZALXNDRA Resort, luxury lies in the details — and in restraint. Our embroidered linen pieces are more than garments. They are designed to transcend trends and celebrate quiet beauty: silhouettes that flatter without insistence, embroidery that catches the light without shouting for it.
Our mission is to create pieces that wear beautifully, feel effortless, and carry meaning. Every silhouette is refined through multiple iterations. Every embroidery placement is studied. Every detail — from the weight of the linen to the spacing of a thread — is deliberate.
This is the opposite of fast fashion. Where the high street designs for the season, we design for the decade.
Heritage
A Living Tradition of Ukrainian Embroidery
Ukraine holds one of the world's richest embroidery traditions. For more than a thousand years, Ukrainian women have stitched their stories into linen — recording faith, harvest, family, and homeland in coloured thread. The patterns vary from region to region, each with its own visual language, but the discipline is the same everywhere: patience, precision, and the conviction that beauty is worth time.
At ZALXNDRA Resort, we draw on this heritage with deep respect. Our designs are not historical reproductions — they are contemporary pieces that carry the spirit of the tradition forward. Modern silhouettes. Timeless craft. Old hands. New eyes.
Techniques We Work With
Satin Stitch
Flat, parallel stitches that create smooth, lustrous fills — used to render petals, leaves, and flowing organic forms with a silken finish.
Chain Stitch
One of the oldest embroidery techniques, forming continuous loops that trace flowing lines and outlines with exceptional texture and depth.
Cross Stitch
The signature stitch of Ukrainian heritage embroidery, building geometric patterns from precise X-shaped stitches in measured rhythm.
Richelieu
An intricate cut-work technique where fabric is selectively removed and the openings are framed in delicate embroidered bridges — creating a lace-like effect on linen.
The Fabric
The Linen We Use
Linen is one of the oldest fabrics in the world — and one of the most quietly luxurious. Made from the fibres of the flax plant, it breathes, drapes, and ages in a way no synthetic fabric can replicate. With wear, it softens. With time, it becomes more itself.
We source 100% pure European linen, selected for its weave, weight, and capacity to hold embroidery beautifully. Every metre is chosen with the finished piece in mind.
- Breathable and natural — perfect for warm climates, long journeys, and considered wardrobes
- Pre-washed and softened — for a smooth, fluid drape from the first wear
- Quality-tested — selected for durability and the ability to age beautifully
- Sustainably sourced — from European mills with traceable supply chains
- Naturally biodegradable — a fabric chosen to honour both the wearer and the earth
This makes every ZALXNDRA piece lightweight, durable, and effortlessly sophisticated — a fabric that becomes part of your skin's memory.

Signature Embroidery
Embroidery That Speaks for Itself
ZALXNDRA's signature embroidery is the essence of our aesthetic — refined, intricate, unmistakable. Each motif is inspired by the natural world and the romance of faraway places: a garden in bloom, a Mediterranean breeze, a moment of quiet sunlight on stone. The stories are read through thread.
We work in subtle, refined colour palettes. Tonal embroidery on neutral linen. Soft botanicals that emerge as you draw close. Geometric repeats that catch the light only at certain angles. The goal is never to dazzle — it is to reward attention.
We produce in small batches with limited quantities per design, preserving the considered nature of each piece. When a design is gone, it is gone. We do not reissue, restock, or scale beyond what our atelier can carry with care.
A Note on Variation
Each piece is unique — and that is the point.
Because every motif is worked by hand, no two pieces are perfectly identical. Slight variations in stitch tension, embroidery placement, or thread tone are part of the artisanal signature — the visible fingerprint of human craft, not a flaw to be corrected. These are the marks that prove a real human made this for you.
The Process
From Sketch to Final Stitch
Every ZALXNDRA piece passes through six considered stages — from the first pencil mark to the final inspection before it reaches your hands. The full journey takes weeks, not hours.
Sketching & Draping
Each silhouette begins as a hand-drawn sketch in Anna's studio, then is draped on the form to balance comfort, movement, and elegance. Multiple iterations are made until the proportions feel right.
Pattern Making
The approved silhouette is translated into precise patterns — adjusted with care to achieve the right fit across our size range. Sample pieces are made, worn, and refined before production begins.
Linen Preparation
Bolts of pure European linen are inspected, cut, and carefully marked to guide embroidery placement. The fabric is treated and prepared so that the finished piece drapes beautifully from the first wear.
Embroidery Work
The heart of the craft. Each motif is worked by hand in our Ukrainian atelier, with care given to clarity, colour harmony, and the rhythm of the stitch. A single embroidered panel can take many hours to complete.
Assembly & Tailoring
The embroidered panels are assembled into the finished garment with attention to clean seams, balanced fit, and considered finishing — buttons, ties, and hems are all hand-finished where the design calls for it.
Quality Control
Every piece is reviewed before it reaches you — inspected for thread security, fabric integrity, and the small details that separate considered craft from mass production. Only pieces that meet our standard are released.
Caring For Your Piece
How to Care for Embroidered Linen
With gentle care, your ZALXNDRA piece is made to last for years — softening with each wear, becoming more itself with time. For best results, dry clean or gently hand wash in cold water. Avoid harsh chemicals, perfumes, and prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to preserve both the embroidery and the natural beauty of the linen.

Made With Intention
Slow Fashion, By Design
We believe in small-batch production and considered design. By creating in limited quantities, choosing natural materials like pure linen, and partnering with artisans whose work we trust, we aim to support a slower, more thoughtful approach to fashion.
We do not chase trends. We do not over-produce. We do not scale beyond what our atelier can make with care. The pace of our work is set by the patience of the craft, not the calendar of the market.
This means our pieces sometimes sell out. We accept that. A slower brand is the trade-off we make for an honest one.
